Medical Grade PEEK Rods Descrition:

Polyether-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) is a semi-crystalline polymer aromatic material, which has the advantages of stable chemical properties at high temperatures and excellent friction properties, as well as good biocompatibility, mechanical properties, mechanical properties, X-ray transmittability and no cytotoxicity.

PEEK material synthesis process requires the use of fluoroketone, phenol monomer raw materials, as well as diphenyl sulfone and other catalysts. The synthesized PEEK raw materials contain a large number of monomers, toxic additives and various by-products, which have greater toxicity to the human body. PEEK raw materials need to be further purified to remove their residual impurities, and can be used as medical raw materials.

Medical grade PEEK material can be divided into general Medical Grade PEEK rods and implantable grade PEEK sheet according to its purity and material properties.

General Medical Grade PEEK rods: This level of PEEK material is currently more used in external fixed devices in contact with the human surface (such as limb fixed position orthopedic supports), short-term interventional catheters, various types of circulation equipment pump body components, and oral maron bridge supports and other non-implantable consumables.

Such application scenarios generally require PEEK materials to have certain biosafety, such as no cytotoxicity, no sensitization, no irritation or intradermal reaction, and should also have the relevant physical and chemical properties required by each product characteristics.

Implant grade PEEK: As the name suggests, PEEK materials that can be used for the preparation of "implant devices" are called implantable PEEK. Such materials are often used in orthopedic implant consumables (such as interbody fusion devices, ligament repair anchors, joint interface screws), neurosurgical patches (such as artificial skull bones, maxillofacial bones), cardiovascular products (such as heart valves, pacemaker shells, etc.). Some manufacturers are using modified PEEK materials for the preparation of oral implants, traumatized bone plates and other products with high mechanical properties.

In addition to meeting the biosafety of ordinary Medical Grade PEEK rods, implantable PEEK should also have more stringent biocompatibility requirements, such as systemic toxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, blood compatibility and implantation reaction, and also meet the requirements of "YY/T 0660 Standard Specification for polyether ether ketone (PEEK) polymer for Surgical Implants".

2. All PEEK rods can be cut to any size.

3. PEEK rods with a diameter greater than 300MM needs to be customized; and those with a diameter less than 3MM can also be customized if the accuracy requirements are not too high. Of course, these two kinds of products are more expensive.
